Frequently Asked Questions

How does Alrighty? work?

You pick how you check in, and your people install Alrighty? too. If you miss a check-in, you get a reminder first. Only if you still haven’t checked in after the wait are your people told, so they can give you a call. On a normal day nobody hears anything.

Which plan should I pick?

  • Once a day: be up by your usual time. Good for living alone.
  • Every few hours: for travelling, a day out on your own, or extra peace of mind.
  • By a time: one check-in for tonight, like a party, a late shift or a walk home.

You can change the plan any time in Settings.

Do I have to open the app every day?

Not on the Once a day and Every few hours plans. With Apple Health or the motion chip on, walking around with your iPhone or Apple Watch checks you in. A tap on Alrighty! works too, in the app or on the reminder. By a time is tap only, with an Alrighty! button on its Lock Screen card.

Why did moving not check me in straight away?

iOS keeps Health data locked while your iPhone is locked, and only wakes Alrighty? now and then. A walk with a locked phone can take a few minutes to count, or until you next unlock it. It still counts for the time you actually moved. On short plans, a tap is the surest way.

Do it in person. In the People tab, one of you taps “Let someone get your alerts” to show a code, and the other taps “Get someone’s alerts” to scan it. Nothing is shared until the person checking in allows it.

How long until my people are told?

You get a reminder at your check-in time. Your people are told after the wait you set in Settings, 45 minutes unless you change it. Check in before then and nobody is bothered.

Will an alert come through Do Not Disturb or Sleep?

“Hasn’t checked in” alerts are sent as Time Sensitive, so they can break through Focus. For Sleep, allow it once: Settings, then Focus, then Sleep, then Apps, and turn on Time Sensitive Notifications. Everything else waits until you’re up.

Can I pause it?

Yes. Tap Pause on the home screen for a flight, a film or a long meeting. Nothing is due until then, and your people can see you’re paused.

What does the battery next to a name mean?

It’s that person’s battery level when their phone last checked in with Alrighty?. iOS reports it in 5% steps, so it may read a little lower than their status bar. At 20% or less it turns red, which can explain a missed check-in later.

How do I stop sharing or remove my data?

To stop sharing with one person, open them in the People tab and stop it there; they are always told. To remove everything, open Settings and tap Delete my data before you uninstall the app. See the privacy policy for what is kept.

Is Alrighty? an emergency service?

No. Alrighty? helps you stay in touch. It cannot guarantee anyone’s safety. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.
