Alrighty? Privacy Policy
Last updated: 29 October 2026
Alrighty? is an iOS app that lets the people who care about you know you’re OK. You check in with a tap, or just by moving, and the people you have linked with are only told if you miss a check-in. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and we never sell your data.
To tell your people when a check-in is missed, even if your phone is off or lost, a small server we run keeps the clock. This page says exactly what it receives and what it never does.
What Stays on Your Phone
- Your name and the names of the people you link with
- Your step counts from Apple Health and the motion chip (only the time you first moved leaves the phone, see below)
- The phone number you choose for the Call button, picked with Apple’s contact picker
- Your plan, your settings, your appearance and theme
Names never reach our server. When two phones link, the name is encrypted with a key that only those two phones hold, so the server passes it on without being able to read it.
What Our Server Receives
- A random ID for your phone and its public key, created when you first open the app. It is not your name, your phone number or your Apple ID
- A push token, so Apple can deliver alerts to your phone
- Your check-ins: the time of your latest check-in, and whether it came from a tap or from moving
- Your plan’s upcoming deadlines, the wait before your people are told, and the end of a pause
- Your battery level and the time your phone last contacted the server
- Which IDs are linked, so the right people are told
The server never receives your name, your phone number, your contacts or your step counts.
Share Where I Am
Alrighty? only reads your location when you tap Share where I am, and asks for permission “While Using the App” the first time. It never tracks you and never reads your location in the background. One location is sent once, to the people you pick. The server passes it on to their phones and does not keep it. Their phones show it for 24 hours, then delete it. Nobody can ask for your location: only you can send it.
What the People You Link With See
Only people you have allowed, after linking phones in person with a code, can see:
- When you last checked in, and whether it was a tap or moving
- When your next check-in is due, and whether you are paused
- Your battery level at your phone’s last contact (iOS reports it in 5% steps)
- That a check-in was missed, if it was
Either of you can stop sharing at any time. The other person is always told.
Apple Health and Motion
With your permission, Alrighty? reads your step count from Apple Health (including your Apple Watch) and from your iPhone’s motion chip, so walking checks you in. Alrighty? only reads; it never writes to Apple Health. Your steps stay on your phone. Only the time you first moved is sent, as your check-in. Health data is never used for advertising or shared with anyone other than the people you link with, and only as a check-in time.
Notifications
Alrighty? sends reminders to you, and alerts to the people you link with. Alerts are delivered by Apple’s push notification service. An alert carries random IDs and times, never a name; your phone adds the name itself. Only “hasn’t checked in” alerts are sent as Time Sensitive, so they can come through Focus and Sleep.
Camera and Contacts
The camera is only used to scan another person’s code, and no picture is stored or sent. Alrighty? does not ask for access to your contacts: the Call button uses Apple’s contact picker, and the number you pick stays on your phone.
Who Runs the Server
The server runs on Cloudflare, which hosts it for us. Like any web host, Cloudflare may briefly log technical information such as an IP address for security and reliability. We use no other service, no analytics and no third-party code that collects data.
How Long Data Is Kept
- Your phone’s record (ID, push token, check-ins, deadlines, battery, links): until you use Delete my data, or until it is no longer needed:
- a record with no links that hasn’t been in touch for 3 days is deleted (if the app is still there, it simply registers again)
- a linked record that hasn’t been in touch for 3 days is checked once a day with Apple’s push service; if Apple reports that Alrighty? was removed from the phone, the record is deleted and the people it was linked with are told
- A link code: 24 hours, or until it is used
- A notice that someone stopped sharing with you: until you dismiss it
- The server’s record of when it learned a deadline and when it sent an alert: 14 days
Deleting Your Data
In Alrighty?, open Settings and tap Delete my data. This removes your phone’s record and all its links from the server straight away, and the people you were linked with are told. Then you can uninstall the app.
Please use Delete my data before uninstalling. Because there is no account, we cannot tell which record is yours, so we cannot delete it for you by email. If you uninstall without it, your record is removed once Apple reports the app is gone (see above), but Apple can take a while to report it, so your people may first be told you missed a check-in.
Your Rights (GDPR)
Under GDPR, you have the right to:
- Withdraw consent at any time by revoking permissions in your iPhone’s Settings
- See your data: everything the server holds about you is shown in the app
- Delete your data with Delete my data
- Stop sharing with anyone at any time
Children’s Privacy
Alrighty? is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
California residents have additional rights:
- Right to know what personal information is collected
- Right to opt out of data sales (we don’t sell data)
- Right to non-discrimination for exercising rights
Not an Emergency Service
Alrighty? helps you stay in touch. It is not an emergency service and cannot guarantee anyone’s safety. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.
