LiveHeight Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 2026
LiveHeight is a standalone iOS altimeter and hiking companion. We do not operate accounts, run analytics or advertising, or sell your data. Almost everything the app does happens on your iPhone.
Data Collection
LiveHeight accesses the following to provide its features:
- Barometric pressure and altitude readings from the iPhone’s barometer/motion sensor
- Location coordinates (latitude/longitude) for altitude above sea level and, optionally, the background features you enable (storm prediction, hike auto-detect)
- Motion activity (walking, running, in a vehicle), processed entirely on-device, for the optional hike auto-detect feature
- App preferences (units, theme, storm-watch and hike-detection settings) stored locally
- Saved hikes (route, elevation profile, timestamps) stored locally
- Workout data via Apple Health, only with your permission
- No personal information, names, email addresses, or contact details
Data Usage
Your data is used exclusively for:
- Showing real-time altitude and atmospheric pressure
- Showing your altitude above sea level (the barometer alone only shows relative change)
- Optional storm prediction by sampling atmospheric pressure, including in the background if you enable Storm watch
- Optionally detecting that a hike has started (sustained walking plus elevation change), if you enable Auto-detect hikes
- Saving hikes locally and, optionally, to Apple Health as workouts
- Fetching topographic map tiles for hikes you view
- Storing your preferences locally on your device
Data Storage
All data is stored:
- Locally on your device only
- No cloud storage or external servers operated by us
- Data is deleted when you uninstall the app
Apple Health (HealthKit)
With your permission, LiveHeight can save a completed hike to Apple Health as a workout and read workout data so saved hikes reflect in your Health profile.
- Health data stays in Apple Health on your device, under Apple’s protections
- Health data is never used for advertising or marketing
- Health data is never sold or shared with third parties
- You can revoke access anytime in Settings → Privacy & Security → Health
Third-Party Services
One optional feature sends a request to a third-party service. Requests are made only when you use the relevant feature, and we do not retain the data:
- OpenTopoMap / OpenStreetMap (topographic maps): map-tile requests reveal the approximate area you are viewing; map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, rendered by OpenTopoMap (CC-BY-SA)
- Only standard tile requests are sent, no personal information, names, or contact details
- These services have their own privacy policies
Your Rights (GDPR)
Under GDPR, you have the right to:
- Withdraw consent at any time by uninstalling the app
- Access your stored data through device settings and within the app
- Delete all data by uninstalling the app
- Control location, motion, and Health permissions through device settings
Data Deletion
How to delete your data:
- Data deletion: Uninstall the app
- Delete saved hikes individually within the app
- Manage or delete Health data in the Apple Health app
- Control permissions in device Settings
Children’s Privacy
LiveHeight is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them. No personal information is collected from any users.
Notifications
LiveHeight may request notification permission to:
- Send storm-watch alerts based on falling atmospheric pressure
- Ask whether to keep or discard an automatically detected hike
- You can disable notifications anytime in device settings
Data Retention
How long your data is kept:
- Location data: Not stored by us; used on-device and for API requests only
- App preferences and saved hikes: Stored locally until manually deleted or app uninstall
- Health data: Managed by you in Apple Health
- No data is retained by us after app deletion
California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
California residents have additional rights:
- Right to know what personal information is collected
- Right to opt-out of data sales (we don’t sell data)
- Right to non-discrimination for exercising rights
