ClipWall Privacy Policy

ClipWall is a standalone macOS app that plays your own video files as your desktop wallpaper. We do not operate accounts, run analytics or advertising, or sell your data. ClipWall has no network access at all, so nothing it reads can leave your Mac even by accident.

Data Collection

ClipWall stores the following to provide its features:

• A reference to each video you add, so it can find that file again after you quit (a security-scoped bookmark, plus the file’s path and name)
• Details read from each video: its length, its pixel dimensions, and the average brightness of the strip that sits behind the menu bar
• Thumbnail images generated from your clips
• Trimmed copies of clips, when you choose to trim one
• App preferences: volume, mute, fill or fit, which clip is on which display, launch at login, and whether the desktop picture should match the video
• The location and display settings of your existing desktop picture, so ClipWall can put it back exactly as it was
• No personal information, names, email addresses, or contact details

Data Usage

Your data is used exclusively for:

• Playing the clips you chose as your wallpaper
• Moving between clips in a rotation and fading from one to the next
• Showing your library with thumbnails and clip lengths
• Keeping the macOS menu bar legible over the video
• Restoring your own desktop picture when you turn ClipWall off or quit it

Data Storage

All data is stored:

• Locally on your Mac only, inside ClipWall’s own sandbox container
• No cloud storage and no external servers, because the app cannot reach the network
• Your original video files are never copied, moved, or modified
• Data is deleted when you uninstall the app

File Access

ClipWall runs in Apple’s App Sandbox. It can read:

• Videos you choose yourself through Add Video, and read only. macOS prevents ClipWall from writing to those files at all, so a bug could not damage your originals
• Your Pictures folder, read only. A video wallpaper library usually lives there. This lets ClipWall find a clip again if its saved reference goes stale, instead of asking you to add the file a second time

It cannot read anything else on your Mac.

Third-Party Services

None. ClipWall has no network entitlement, includes no third-party SDKs or trackers, and makes no requests of any kind. There is nothing for it to send data to.

Your Rights (GDPR)

Under GDPR, you have the right to:

• Withdraw consent at any time by uninstalling the app
• Access your stored data within the app and through Finder
• Delete all data by uninstalling the app
• Control file access through macOS System Settings

Because no personal data ever leaves your Mac, there is nothing held by us to request, correct, or export.

Data Deletion

How to delete your data:

• Data deletion: uninstall the app
• Remove individual clips from the library at any time, which also deletes any trimmed copy of that clip
• Turning off “Match desktop to video” restores your own desktop picture

Children’s Privacy

ClipWall is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them. No personal information is collected from any user.

Data Retention

How long your data is kept:

• Library, thumbnails, trimmed clips and preferences: stored on your Mac until you delete them or uninstall the app
• No data is retained by us at any point, because none is ever transmitted

California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

California residents have additional rights:

• Right to know what personal information is collected
• Right to opt-out of data sales (we don’t sell data)
• Right to non-discrimination for exercising rights

Policy Updates

This privacy policy may be updated:

• We will reflect significant changes by updating the date above
• Continued app use constitutes acceptance of changes
• Check this page regularly for updates
